Club CUSD Fall Break 2022
Fall Break Camps! Nerding is a local, small program that has been offering the most fun and innovative STEM classes in the Tempe/Gilbert area since 2014. Our experienced, engaging teachers are excited to bring our program to CUSD this year! We have 5 exciting classes to choose from for Fall Break at Ryan and Hancock. Nerds should bring a snack and a water bottle to camp! You can contact us directly with any questions: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 833-NERDING
**If you sign up for a morning and afternoon Nerding class, your nerd CAN stay through the lunch break. Pack a sack lunch and the kids will be supervised by Nerding staff and escorted to their next Nerding class.
Space Explorers (grades 1-2): Join the NERD Astronaut Training Program! In this class learn about our solar system: what’s in it, how it formed, and how we are exploring it! We will experiment with the forces that shape our universe, build, test, and launch rockets, make a comet, and touch real meteorites as we explore and discover space. Learn more and see photos here: https://nerding.org/space-explorers/
Escape: Lost Cities (grades 3-6): “Unlock” the secrets to ancient civilizations and lost cities! Pack your bags and get ready to travel the world! Learn about faraway and ancient lands and use that knowledge to crack codes, solve puzzles, and find keys! There are new wonders to explore and “escape” from each day. Bring your adventurous spirit and problem solving mind! This class is inspired by the “Escape Room” concept, but no one gets locked in a room. Instead, we are trying to use our clues to break into our boxes with all kinds of different, crazy locks! Learn more and see photos of this class here: https://nerding.org/escape-lost-cities/ .
3D Printing: Design & Print (grades 3-6): Class description: 3D printers are changing the game! It’s now easier and faster than ever to bring ideas to 3-dimensional life. Nerds will design 3D models in a kid-friendly CAD (Computer Aided Design) program, learn the printing process, watch their creation print, then take it home! Kids will learn the math and spatial reasoning required to navigate the 3D design environment and how to efficiently use the tools to produce their models. You’ll also learn about all the awesome ways 3D printing is being used for prosthetics and healthcare, construction of homes, and even in space! Learn more and see photos of this class here: https://nerding.org/3d-printing/ .
Electric Inventions (grades 3-6): It’s all about electricity and CIRCUITS! We will be building and creating our own circuit inventions with wire, copper tape, LEDs, motors, and batteries, as well as working with a cool tool called a Makey Makey. Think of Makey Makey like an external computer keyboard, but with all the keys ripped off so you can mess with the circuits underneath. Using the Makey Makey, you can add any conductive material to the circuit and turn it into a keyboard key! The possibilities are endless! We can build pianos out of bananas, game controllers from gummy worms, or even turn your classmates into keys! Learn more and see photos of this class here: https://nerding.org/electric-inventions/ .
Virtual Reality: Design & Code (grades 3-6): In this futuristic class, you’ll learn the mechanics of how virtual reality (VR) works and get to develop your very own VR games! We’ll learn to code using a block-based coding language called CoBlocks, and every student will get pro access to CoSpaces, an online coding software. From digital zoos to obstacle courses, there is no limit to what you can make! You’ll even be able to enter your games and 3D spaces using one of our VR headsets!
