ABSi Spanish

Spring Programs: ABSi Spanish Club Session One: In our first session, we’ll dive into the fun world of Spanish by exploring basics like numbers, colors, shapes, and some handy phrases like "Me llamo" (My name is), "Hola, ¿cómo estás?" (Hi, how are you?), and "¿Cómo se dice?" along with other great conversation starters! This class will be super interactive, with lots of exciting activities like playing "lotería"/bingo, singing catchy songs, and even making a piñata together. ABSi Spanish Club Session Two: In session two, students will review key concepts like numbers, colors, and greetings, while primarily expanding their vocabulary of fruits and vegetables. We’ll cover the basics of feminine and masculine articles, as well as how to express likes and dislikes. Activities will include engaging games, movement on musical mats, and creating miniature foods with modeling clay. All classes are non-refundable. Spring Programs: Game Design and Animation with Scratch, Python & JavaScript: Embark on an unparalleled adventure with our Game Design and Animation Class - a unique, project-based learning experience that infuses the charm of storytelling with the power of coding. This course is meticulously designed to spark the inherent creativity in young minds and foster their innovative storytelling and game designing capabilities. Junior Alchemists: Chemistry for Kids- is designed to not only pique an interest in scientific inquiry, but to introduce students to a deeper understanding of its development and application. We allow them to see the basic principles of science in the world around them. The course is focused on a number of experiments; they are tons of fun, visually appealing, and can safely be reproduced at home for friends and family. Olympic Chess: Learn chess with Athena! We’ve designed a high-energy, stimulating approach to chess that is great for all ages. Classes are typically divided into different skill levels. Students will spend much of their time playing each other and challenging the instructor. At the beginning of each class, we have a brief question and answer session on a certain topic, challenging students with exercises and puzzles. Students learn piece types, movements, captures, positioning, basic strategy, and move on to advanced topics such as openings, pins, forks, and skewers, Middle and Endgame strategy and tactics, and chess variants. Each class ends in a tournament where the winner takes home a trophy! Minecraft Coding and Design Studio: Minecraft isn't just the world's most popular game; it's also an excellent tool for teaching a wide array of subjects. At Athena, we've developed a project based approach to a variety of important topics using Minecraft Educational; our course will cover Personalized Game Design, Animation and storytelling, Programming in Python and Javascript, Architecture and design, The fundamentals of electrical circuitry using Minecraft's patented Redstone circuit system, Logic gates, multi-system mechanisms, Modding and more! Basha Media Crew Only students from Basha Elementary can apply and participate. Application must be submitted to Mrs. Gutierrez prior to signing up Students will be expected to demonstrate all of the 6 pillars of character at all times as a member of the Bobcat Broadcast staff. All technology that is used by the students will be respected and handled with care. Students & Parents are responsible for any damage incurred to the equipment as caused by inappropriate or negligent student behavior. Active attendance of weekly meetings and announcement duties is required to remain a member of the Media Program. Spring Programs: Marvelous Moving Machines: In this fun and engaging STEM and Creativity class we will use our favorite LEGO® bricks along with some extra supplies like rubber bands, balloons, and marbles to build a variety of marvelous moving machines. We will explore kinetic and potential energy, friction, force, and mass. We will also learn about Isaac Newton and his important laws of physics. In every class we will build a functioning model that can drop, stop, spin, roll, take off, or even clickety-clack. Along the way, we will develop creative problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Leave your LEGO at home, we’ll supply everything you need. There are no take-home projects. For grades K - 6. Thrilling Contraptions: Add some thrill and drama to your LEGO® play in the Thrilling Contraptions after-school club. We will bring special LEGO TECHNIC™ parts--you know, the kind that move and have gears and wheels and motors--to build thrilling projects to help us explore the 6 Classical Machines and understand how they still form the basis of every tool and machine we use. After mastering these special parts, we'll "Save the President" while exploring the inclined plane, "Reach Out" with grabber claws as we learn about levers, and more, until we complete the class having mastered our understanding of all the simple machines and how they work together in an exciting battery-powered race car project that will leave kids able to answer “What does a transmission do?” Exploration through Creation: See the world through your own creations in the Exploration through Creation after-school club. Students will take a fun-filled journey using creative play with LEGO® bricks to explore and discover and share about themselves, their classmates, and the communities they live in through fun, collaborative, creativity-focused play, and building. Work in teams to build LEGO creations inspired by your favorite characters, or some of your own, and bring them to life using Stop Motion Animation techniques to make your own short LEGO Movies. CHS Southwest Wrestling-Session 5 January-February Wrestling gives young athletes the opportunity to develop strength, conditioning, agility, balance, flexibility, and great work ethic. We provide technical skills and physical development for all levels of experience with ample opportunity for students to hone their skills with live wrestling.
