General Game Rules (All Divisions)

Serving Rule: Serves must be hit underhand and from below the waist. The server stands in the right service court when their score is even, and the left court when their score is odd.

Doubles Specific Serving & Positioning

  • The First Serve: At the start of a game, the designating server stands in the right court and serves diagonally to the opponent's right court.
  • Switching Courts: Players on the serving team only switch service courts (left/right) after they win a point on their own serve. The receiving team never switches positions; they only switch when they win a rally and earn the right to serve.
  • Rally Scoring: Whichever side wins a rally adds a point to their score, regardless of who served.

Court Boundaries

  • Singles: Long and narrow. (Inbound lines are the inner side lines and the back baseline).
  • Doubles: Short and wide during the serve; long and wide during the rally.
  • Line Calls: A shuttlecock landing directly on a boundary line is considered in.

Official Play Instructions

1. Round Robin Divisions

Applies to: All Junior Singles, All Junior Doubles, All Senior Doubles, and All Mixed Doubles. All Senior Doubles and Mixed Doubles will play after the Senior Single Division Seeding Phase. This will allow players to find Doubles and Mixed Doubles partners if you do not already have them.

The goal here is maximum playing time and straightforward scoring. Teams/players will play a single game against every other team in their specific pool.

  1. Check-In & Court Assignment: Before play.
    1. Players or doubles teams report to the tournament desk to confirm their pool, check their match schedule, and find their assigned court.
  2. The Match: Single game to 11.
    1. Matches consist of one single game to 11 points. You do not need to win by 2 points; the first side to hit 11 wins.
  3. Report Scores: Immediately after the match.
    1. One representative from each side must go to the tournament desk together to report the final score (e.g., Team A wins 11-8).
  4. Determine Winners: End of round robin.
    1. The player or doubles team with the most total match wins takes 1st place. If there is a tie, the side that allowed the fewest total points against them across all games wins the tiebreaker.

2. Senior Singles Division (9th–12th Grade Only)

The Senior Singles division uses a competitive, multi-stage bracket format. Players must lose twice to be fully eliminated.

  1. Seeding Phase: 3 matches per player. This is to be completed on Friday
    1. Every player is randomly assigned 3 seeding matches. Each match is the best 2-out-of-3 sets to 11 points.
  2. Bracket Creation: At the desk.
    1. The tournament desk ranks players based on their win/loss record in the seeding phase to build the official Double Elimination Bracket.
  3. Championship Bracket: Winners. This is to be played on Saturday
    1. Players advance along the top bracket as long as they keep winning. Matches remain best 2-out-of-3 sets to 11 points.
  4. Consolation Bracket: After 1st loss.
    1. A player who loses drops to the bottom bracket. They can still fight their way back to the finals! A second loss eliminates them from the tournament.
  5. The Grand Finale: Championship Match.
    1. The undefeated winner of the top bracket plays the winner of the bottom bracket. If the bottom-bracket player wins the first match, a final "if-necessary" match is played to hand out a second loss.
