Spring Programs: Marvelous Moving Machines: In this fun and engaging STEM and Creativity class we will use our favorite LEGO® bricks along with some extra supplies like rubber bands, balloons, and marbles to build a variety of marvelous moving machines. We will explore kinetic and potential energy, friction, force, and mass. We will also learn about Isaac Newton and his important laws of physics. In every class we will build a functioning model that can drop, stop, spin, roll, take off, or even clickety-clack. Along the way, we will develop creative problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Leave your LEGO at home, we’ll supply everything you need. There are no take-home projects. For grades K - 6. Thrilling Contraptions: Add some thrill and drama to your LEGO® play in the Thrilling Contraptions after-school club. We will bring special LEGO TECHNIC™ parts--you know, the kind that move and have gears and wheels and motors--to build thrilling projects to help us explore the 6 Classical Machines and understand how they still form the basis of every tool and machine we use. After mastering these special parts, we'll "Save the President" while exploring the inclined plane, "Reach Out" with grabber claws as we learn about levers, and more, until we complete the class having mastered our understanding of all the simple machines and how they work together in an exciting battery-powered race car project that will leave kids able to answer “What does a transmission do?” Exploration through Creation: See the world through your own creations in the Exploration through Creation after-school club. Students will take a fun-filled journey using creative play with LEGO® bricks to explore and discover and share about themselves, their classmates, and the communities they live in through fun, collaborative, creativity-focused play, and building. While the students enjoy go-at-your-own-pace activities and making new friends, projects will challenge them in ways that will develop STEM skills, problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, and help them to become better communicators. LEGO Animation & Creativity Camp: LEGO and Movie Making come together in one exciting camp! Work in teams to build LEGO creations inspired by your favorite characters, or some of your own, and bring them to life using Stop Motion Animation techniques to make your own short LEGO Movies. Lessons are taught on Apple iPads using apps you can download at home, so the fun can continue after camp is over. Leave your own LEGO and iPads at home. All supplies are provided. No take-home projects. Grades 1 - 6. Camp will challenge students to develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while they learn STEM concepts and show off their creativity. It is recommended students be at least 7 years of age for this camp. Students should bring a water bottle and a small snack each day of camp. All classes are non-refundable. Fall Programs: Gizmos & Gadgets: Teach your LEGO bricks cool new tricks in the LEGO Gizmos and Gadgets after-school club! Projects will “sail”, “take off”, “fly”, “catapult”, and “race”! In every class we will build a functioning model while we learn the STEM skills behind how they work and practice problem solving, teamwork, and communication. Leave your LEGO at home; we’ll supply everything you need. No take-home projects. Building Our Holidays: This special, three-week LEGO class is held right before winter break. We will explore many of the winter holidays as we build special projects inspired by winter and winter holiday traditions. We will use our LEGO to explore our creativity and spread holiday cheer as we learn to appreciate and respect that we all celebrate the holidays differently. Projects will include holiday icons and symbols, creating holiday scenes, and exploring fun and silly holiday traditions. Leave your LEGO at home, we’ll supply everything you need. There are no take-home projects. For grades K+. In every class we will build a functioning model while we learn the STEM skills behind how they work, as we practice problem solving skills, teamwork skills, and how to become better communicators.
